UP heatwave toll 25
LUCKNOW, May 7 (PTI) — Intense heatwave conditions continued unabated in the plains of Uttar Pradesh today as the toll in the current spell of summer rose to 25 in the state with reports of six more deaths due to heat stroke in Kannauj district since yesterday. Six persons died due to heat stroke in Jalalabad, Khudlapur and Sasrapur villages of Kannauj district yesterday, reports received here said. Allahabad continued to remain the hottest place in the plains recording a maximum of 45°C.

ISLAMABAD, May 7 (AFP) — Some 20 Pakistani children were murdered in first three months of the year after being sexually abused, a non-governemental organisation said today. A total of 219 cases of sexual assault against children were reported in the country over the three-month period, NGO Sahil said in a statement. In 59 per cent of the cases the sexually abused children were female.

ISLAMABAD, May 7 (PTI) — Former Pakistani premier Benazir Bhutto, convicted in a corruption case, allegedly received huge kickbacks in another government deal during her regime, the official APP news agency said quoting an Accountability Bureau source. The bureau yesterday claimed that Poland handed over a 500 page document to Pakistan confirming that Bhutto and her jailed husband Asif Zardari had collected Rs 103 million as "kickbacks/commission" in the import of 8000 tractors by the government under "awami tractors scheme".
6 die in mishap
BHABHUA (Bihar), May 7 (UNI) — At least six persons were killed and 34 injured when a bus carrying a marriage party overturned near Shukal Pipara village in Kaimur district today. Superintendent of Police Deepak Kumar Verma said the conditions of four of the injured was stated to be critical. They were admitted to the BHU hospital at Varanasi. Others had been admitted to local hospital here. Mr Verma said rash driving was the cause of the accident.

DHAKA, May 7 (AP) — The police fired gunshots and teargas to control nearly 4,000 students protesting their expulsion for cheating in examinations, injuring at least 50 of them. The protesters attacked teachers and rampaged through university campuses in Bangladesh's six districts in the north and west today, an Education Ministry official said today. The students were punished after teachers found them copying.
Hooch kills 29
DHAKA, May 7 (PTI) — At least 29 persons died today and 16 others were admitted to hospitals after consuming spurious liquor in the Bangladesh town of Narsingdi, some 80 km northeast of capital Dhaka, police sources said. Over 40 persons who consumed illegal country-made liquor last night from shops across the district town had fallen sick after consuming it. Twentynine of them, admitted to nearby hospitals, died today.Top
