Cultural Scene
A damp squib performance
Tribune News Service

CHANDIGARH, Nov 21 — Aryans' performance at the Jailhouse Rock discotheque here today proved to be a damp squib.

The opening of the bakery, Hot Breads, which is a multinational chain, at the venue seemed more significant event than the performance: The stars took to the stage well over two hours behind schedule.

‘Oh-la-la doll’ Joy Mathhews, MTV anchor, used to big crowd participation in shows was disappointed when all the names she took out from a list of questioners among the crowd were away from the venue or did not show up.

A small stage was put up in a corner where the lights failed to focus on stars. "The show looks more like a dance party and stars have been given more publicity than they deserve. Probably bakery and not the performance was the more important project", a visitor said.

A section of mediapersons had their share of problems when they were denied entrance at the gate. The gatekeepers asked for company of their female counterparts which they said was necessary for the entry.

Other songs on the list of the performers included ‘Shana’, ‘Bin soche’ and ‘Chori’. A section of the crowd demanded repeat performance of the ‘Ankhon mein’ number while another complained that the singers were only rendering voice to recorded tracks which looked less impressive.Back
