Jabri, model village near LoC

KUPWARA (J&K), Nov 20 (PTI) — Located near the Line of Control in Kupwara district of north Kashmir, Jabri village is an example of development brought about with the combined efforts of villagers and Armymen.

Unmindful of the firing from across the border, the villagers and soldiers worked together on a project to connect the village in Tangdhar sector with water and electricity.

Initiated under the Army development group, the project included supplying water to the entire village, electrification, construction of community development centre and upgradation and renovation of the only school.

It has been successfully completed with the cooperation and involvement of the people of Jabri, senior Army officers told visiting reporters here yesterday.

Despite the hamlet having only 80 to 100 male members, who have to plough their fields, earn their living and do their winter stocking in view of heavy snowfall in the village for six months, the local people cooperated wholeheartedly with the Army, the officials said.

Two 15 KVA generators have been installed and electricity connection given to all houses.

Water was harnessed from the Jabri lake by constructing a storage tank ‘‘right under enemy’s observation’’, the Army officers said, adding the brave soldiers and villagers along with combat engineer representatives completed the task unmindful of the enemy fire.

Under the Sadhbhavana project, construction of a community centre and renovation of the only school had also been undertaken, they said.

The villagers also came forward to receive training in operating the generator sets as well as in elementary first aid and veterinary aid, the officials said. Top
