10-year-old killed in mishap

CHANDIGARH, Nov 26 — A young boy of Sector 32 succumbed to his injuries after he was hit by a van near the Sector 32 market here today.

According to police sources, 10-year-old Sandeep was hit by the vehicle (PB-65-4308) and was seriously injured. He was rushed to the Sector 32 hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The driver of the van fled from the scene. A case under Sections 279 and 304-A of the IPC has been registered at the Sector 34 police station.

Assaulted: Mr Mahesh Kumar of Sector 27 reported that he was assaulted and threatened by Randhir Singh of Sector 20 and others near Golf Club. A case under Sections 323, 341, 506 and 34 of the IPC has been registered at the Sector 26 police station.

Car stolen: Mr Iqbal Singh of Sector 46 reported that his car (CH-OIF-9462) had been stolen from his house. A case under Section 379 of the IPC has been registered.

Eve-teasers caught: Shakti Singh and Ankeet Singh were arrested on the charge of eve-teasing. Cases under Section 294 of the IPC has been registered against them.

Burgled: Cash to the tune of Rs 10,000 and a watch were reportedly stolen from a house in Sector 12 on Wednesday. In his complaint, Mr Surinder Kumar, owner of the house, said somebody broke into his house and took away the cash while he and his wife were away at work. A case under Sections 457 and 380 of the IPC has been registered.Back



 


St Xavier's win epee event

CHANDIGARH, Nov 26 — St Xavier's Senior Secondary School, Sector 44, won the epee event in the under-14 section of the UT inter-school fencing championship for girls at Shivalik Public School, Sector 41, here today.

The hosts won the foil event. The overall champion trophy in this section was shared by St Xavier's and the hosts.

Standing — under-14: SPS-41 1, Guru Harkishan Public School-40 2, St Xavier's-44 and Sacred Heart-26 3; epee: St Xavier's-44 1, Sacred Heart-26 2, SPS-41 and GHPS 3.

In the under-14 final in epee event, St Xavier's beat Sacred Heart 2-1 (Navneet b Saloni 5-4, Jyoti lost to Ashta 3-5, Mandeep b Shreya 5-3). In foil final, SPS beat SGHPS-40 2-1 (Babita lost to Ritu 2-5, Harsimran b Parwinder 5-0, Preeti b Gurpreet 5-3).

In the under-19 section, overall trophy went to SD Public School, Sector 32, while Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 16, were runners-up. Carmel Convent School and Government Model High School, Sector 36, were placed third and fourth, respectively.

Under-19 — foil: SDPS 1, Carmel Convent 2,GMSSS-16 and GMHS-36 3; epee: GMSSS-16 1, SDPS-32 2, GMHS-36 and CC-9 3.

Bronze for PU: Panjab University won the bronze medal in the All-India inter-varsity badminton tournament held at Indore recently. Calicut University secured the gold medal while Kottayam University got the silver medal.

The North Zone inter-varsity tournament could not be held this time due to the inability shown by GND University to hold it. Based on last year's performance, PU was invited and were placed in the same pool as Calicut University, last years' winners. The PU team comprised Vivek Sharma, Ashish Sharma, Deepak Sidhu, Tauseef Ahmed, Gurdev and Aman Sidhu.Back
