Car stolen:
A white Esteem (PB-02-7600) belonging to Mr Sukhminder Singh was stolen on Thursday from outside Oberoi Castle Hotel on Albert Road here.

Blood donation: On the World Blood Donation Day, Sector Headquarters, BSF, organised a blood donation camp at the BSF campus, Khasa, in collaboration with the Indian Red Cross Society and Guru Nanak Dev Hospital, here on Friday. The camp was inaugurated by Mr H.S. Gill, DIG, BSF. More than 50 BSF personnel, including jawans, SOS, officers and their wives donated blood.

FEROZEPORE
Elected:
Dr Gurmeet Singh and Dr Surinderpal Singh have been unanimously elected presidents of the Ferozepore and Abohar tehsil units, respectively, of the Punjab State Veterinary Officers Association (Ferozepore district). This was stated here on Sunday by association's district unit president Dr Surinder Chaudhary, who also condemned the non-implementation of the recommendations of the Fourth Pay Commission report. He said officers were agitated over the decision of the Punjab Government to empower sarpanches to check the attendance of hospital staff.

Function: Winners of a general knowledge competition were given prizes on Saturday at a function held at MLM Senior Secondary School here. The function was organised by local unit of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) in memory of M.R. Dass, founder of D.C. Model group of schools. Among others present on the occasion was Mr Janmeja Singh Sekhon, Minister of State for Cooperation and Sainik Welfare Punjab.

JALANDHAR
Redressal forums:
The Telecom Department here has set up several redressal forums in the district for providing better customer service and dealing with their complaints. Mr C.R. Kataria, General Manager, Jalandhar Telecom, said here on Friday that subscribers could meet the officers on any working day from Monday to Friday between 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. without any prior appointment. If their problem still remained unsolved, they could also meet the General Manager, Telecom, between 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday and Wednesday, he added.

LUDHIANA
NSS camp:
An NSS camp of volunteers of Kamla Lohtia Sanatan Dharam College is being held at Bhadurke village from September 26 onwards. The volunteers from the college have started mass awareness programme in the village regarding spread of certain diseases and their preventive and curative measures.

MOGA
Mishap:
A farm labourer of a farmer of Langeana Nawan village under Baghapurana police station in the district died after he was run over by a harvest combine.

Blood camp:
A blood donation camp was organised at Mansa Devi Mandir by the Blood Donors Health Care Society here on Thursday. According to Mr Harmohan Singh, chairman of the society, 20 persons donated blood at the camp.

Concluded: The 10-day camp organised by the Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector 26, concluded with a valedictory function here on Sunday. Volunteers visited Mother Teresa's Charity Home, Sector 23, and the Old-Age Home, Sector 15. Mr G.S. Bhatti, Adviser, NSS, Chandigarh, gave away the prizes to the winners of the various activities.

AMBALA
Quiz:
The local Rotract Club organised a quiz on the freedom movement at the cantonment on Friday. Eight schools of the town participated. Jain Girls Senior Secondary School bagged the first position.

Annual day: The annual day of the Street Children Welfare Centre was organised here on Thursday. Street children presented a cultural show. The Deputy Commissioner, Mrs Navraj Sandhu, announced a grant of Rs 51,000 for the building of a school for street children. Mr S.C. Gulati, general secretary, Child Welfare Council, here said two centres had been started for rag-picker girls.

KURUKSHETRA
Blood camp:
The World Blood Donation Day was celebrated by the local District Red Cross Society here on Friday. The society organised a rally in which students from local schools and colleges as well as members of the Saint John Ambulance Brigade participated. The rally was flagged off by Mr Lajveer Singh, Subdivisional Magistrate, Thanesar. After the rally which converged at the premises of Red Cross Bhavan here, a blood donation camp was also organised. Employees of the Red Cross Society and school students donated blood.

ROHTAK
Vehicle thefts:
A Maruti car and a jeep have been stolen in the town. According to police sources, a car (DL 3C 6713) belonging to Mr R.C. Ahuja of Panipat was allegedly stolen from the main road outside the Mansarovar Park here on Thursday. In another incident, a jeep (HR 031C 121) of Mr Sukhbir Singh of Hanumangarh (Rajasthan) was stolen by some unidentified persons outside a nursing home in DLF colony here. A case has been registered.

SIRSA
Charge taken:
Mr K.K. Mishra took charge as Superintendent of Police here on Saturday in place of Mr B.S. Sandhu, Senior Superintendent of Police, Sirsa, who has proceeded on long leave.
Arrested: Devi Lal and Balram of Budhwasa village in Rajasthan and Ram Singh of Hanjira village in the district were arrested under the excise Act here on Saturday. The police seized 280 pouches of liquor from them.

Arrested: Nine persons of Nuhian Wali village in the district were arrested in a case registered against them under Section 379/430, IPC, on a complaint of a subdivisional officer, Irrigation Department, in which it was alleged that the accused had stolen irrigation water by using bugli cuts and by using pipes.

Injured: Hari Ram, a jail inmate of the district jail here, was seriously injured with lathis by two other inmates in jail premises on Saturday. Both assailants — Servjeet and Rajinder Singh — were allegedly under the influence of liquor when they made a murderous assault with lethal weapons on him. He has been hospitalised.

Sentenced: Mr Harbir Singh Dhaiya, Magistrate Ist class, awarded two years’ imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1500 each to Swai Singh and his father Hanuman here on Friday in a criminal case registered against them under Sections 326/323/34, IPC, on November 16, 1991, on a complaint of Atma Ram, a shopkeeper of Thear mohalla here.

SONEPAT
Liquor seized:
A patrolling party of the Kharkhauda police seized a vehicle found abandoned on the Sonepat-Rohtak road near Jharot village about 15 km from here on Saturday. According to the police, 10 packets of liquor were seized during the search of the vehicle. A case under the excise Act has been registered against the owner of the unclaimed vehicle.

Arrested: The Mohana police arrested Mam Singh for possessing six bottles of country liquor at Mohana village, 19 km from here on Saturday. A case under the excise Act has been registered.top

BILASPUR
Old age home:
Nehru Yuva Kendra will set up an old age home during the year in the district here and Rs 40,000 will be spent on it. A grant of Rs 90,000 will also be given to 18 yuvak mandals in the district for promoting youth activities. Presiding over a district-level Nehru Yuva Kendra Advisory Committee meeting here on Thursday, Additional District Magistrate R.D. Panwar said the kendra would also spend Rs 3.10 lakh for organising youth development and social welfare camps, workshops and seminars during the year.

Seminar: A child health care awakening and training seminar was held at the Regional Youth Hostel at Jabali, about 7 km from here under the aegis of District Literacy Committee. Presiding over the three-day seminar’s concluding function on Saturday, ADM R.D. Panwar said 60 youths drawn from Kehloor Sanskritik Dal, Jan Chetna Kala Manch, Basant Kala Manch and Kala Jatha Makari participated and were given training in propagating and inspiring villagers through their cultural programmes in matter of safe delivery and child health.

Demanded: The district units of Himachal Pradesh Pashupalan Vibhag Karamchari Sangh and Pashupalan Vibhag Class Four Employees Union have demanded that their office-time-schedule should also be changed as has been done in case of institutes of Health Department. Mr Jagatram Sharma and Mr Krishanlal Sharma, presidents, respectively of both these organisations, said that their office timing should also be fixed between 9.30 a.m. to 1.30 p.m. and 2.00 p.m. to 4 p.m. as had been done in all Health Departments in state. Mr Jagatram Sharma also demanded non-practising allowance to pharmacists working in Pashupalan Vibhag in state.

Contest: Priyanka, Pooja Sharma and Kuldeep Mahajan were declared first, second and third, respectively, in a paper reading contest on ‘Advancement in technology and total solar eclipse awareness’ organised by Postgraduate Government College here on Saturday. top
