Awarded:
Sant Narkewal Bedi, Chairman of the Amritvani Satsang Dharmarth Trust, has been awarded the Army Commander's Commendation Card on Independence Day for his services in promoting national integration through active participation in the curriculum of the Indian Army's Institute of National Integration, Pune.

NAWANSHAHR
Medical camp:
The Guru Nanak Mission Medical and Education Trust, Dhahan Kaleran, and the Helpage India organised a free medical check-up camp at Guru Nanak Mission Hospital, Dhahan Kaleran, on Saturday. The camp was inaugurated by Mr Hardev Singh Kahma, a philanthropist and industrialist, who also laid the foundation stone of Tara Singh Memorial Hall.

PHAGWARA
Arrested:
Sanjiv Kumar (17) has been arrested on the charge of criminally assaulting a nine-year-old girl in the local Mansa Devi Mandir Nagar in Satnapura area on Saturday, the police said. Sanjiv, residing in the same locality, had tempted the girl to come to his house, where he was alone. He, them, criminally assaulted her. The police has booked him under Section 376 of the IPC.

PANIPAT
Suicide:
Santosh , wife of Balraj, allegedly committed suicide by setting herself on fire in her house at Mehlana village on Saturday. According to the police, a family feud is stated to be the cause of the suicide. However, Mr Umed Singh, brother of the victim , lodged an FIR against his brother-in-law, for the alleged harassment of her sister which led to the incident.
Road mishap: One person died and four others were injured in a road accident near Siwan village on Sunday. The accident took place when their car hit a parked truck on the G.T. Road. It is learnt that the car owner, Pyara Lal, along with members of his family, was going to Jalandhar from Delhi to cast their votes. Pyara Lal died on the spot in the accident and four others, Kuldeep, Hena, Kiran and Kamala, received head injuries. The injured were admitted to the local Civil Hospital.

KURUKSHETRA
Resentment:
Members of the district Patwari Association at their meeting held on the premises of Shri Krishna Museum Park here on Sunday expressed resentment over not being called for training after being selected. The association president, Mr Sulekh Malik, said the list of selected candidates was released on May 22 but none of them had been called for training.

Vacant posts:
Resentment prevails among residents of several villages in the district due to the shortage of teachers in government schools. Four posts of teacher, including that of the headmaster of Government High School, Banni, have been lying vacant for the past several months. Posts of block education officers have also been lying vacant in the district.
Power fluctuations:
Resentment prevails among the residents of several villages against the Haryana Vidyut Prasaran Nigam our power fluctuations in rural and urban areas of the district. This has reportedly caused heavy losses to consumers.
Crop diseases:
Farmers of the district are reportedly facing a drought-like situation due to scanty rain fall this time. Certain crop diseases have affected the sugarcane crop. The shortage of water and power cuts have added to their problems.
Faulty street lights:
Residents of the local Aggarsain Colony and its adjoining areas in a complaint to the district administration have demanded that faulty streetlights in the area be repaired. Members of the Maharaj Aggarsain Colony Sudhar Samiti have alleged that repeated complaints had been made to the municipal council in this regard.
Dilapidated building:
Employees of the Haryana Khadi Board have been working in a dilapidated rented building in the district headquarters for the past several months. According to sources, cracks have developed in the walls and the roof of the building which may lead to a serious accident.
Contaminated water:
Residents of Sant Nagar village in the district have been in the grip of a mysterious disease for the past several days. It has been alleged that contaminated water was being supplied by the Public Health Department Authorities. Three children have reportedly died because of the disease.
Suicide attempt:
Gurnam Singh (25) of Panihar village in the district consumed poison on Thursday and was later hospitalised. His condition was stated to be stable.
Body found:
The Sirsa police recovered the decomposed body of a middle-aged male person from a canal near Panniwala Motta village in the district on Thursday. The body has not been identified so far.

KANGRA
Girl found:
The police here has recovered Vinta Devi, a minor girl of Getta village, Pathankot, on Friday following the arrest of the alleged abductor, Tilak Raj, of Daultpur village after a raid on his hideout. The girl was abducted from her house on August 22.

PALAMPUR
Dead:
Hari Ram of Andretta village died on the spot when an electricity pole fell on him at his village, 15 km from here, on Saturday. According to the police, the victim was standing on the side of a road when the pole fell. A case has been registered.
