2 killed in road mishaps

PANCHKULA, Sept 6 — Bachni Devi of Gadi Kothana died on the spot after a Haryana Roadways bus (HR-08-7798) knocked her down while she was on way to her house with her husband Jeet Singh. While the driver fled from the scene, a case under Sections 279 and 304-A of the IPC has been registered against him.

Sunil Kumar died on the spot and Bali Ram was hurt in an accident near Surajpur when a truck (HP-3376) hit their scooter (CH-01-W-5437). A case under Sections 279 and 304-A of the IPC has been registered against the driver at the Pinjore police station.

Complaint lodged
Mr Vikas Garg of Sector 6 lodged a complaint against the driver of a Maruti car (HP-03-B-2756) for negligent and rash driving at the police station in Sector 5. A case under Sections 279 and 337 has been registered.

Eve-teasing
A Sector 20 resident has been arrested on the charges of eve-teasing.

According to police sources, Ramesh Kumar, was arrested after he passed some demeaning remarks against a resident of Sector 8. A case under Section 294 of the IPC has also been registered.

Case registered
A cross case has been registered against two parties which clashed in Dadu Majra colony. The case was registered on a complaint by Krishan Pal against Pal Ram, Luxmi, Vijay and two others while another case was registered on a complaint by Vijay against Krishan Pal, Subash, Raju, Dharambir and Satbir.

The cases have been registered under Sections 147, 149, 323, 506 and 34 of the IPC.

Forcible eviction
Ms Shashi Shah, a resident of Yug Divya Mandir, reported to the police that her household items were forcibly thrown out by members of the temple's managing committee. A case has been registered under Sections 448, 51, 506 and 34 of the IPC at the Mani Majra police station.

Trespassing alleged
Mrs Balwinder Kaur, a resident of Sector 19, reported to the police that two persons, aged between 30 and 40 years, trespassed her house with an intention of molesting her.

Price Watch
Vegetable prices decline

PANCHKULA, Sept 6 — The prices of most vegetables have declined by Rs 5 to Rs 7 but vendors continue to sell these at last week's prices.

Tomatoes are available in the Sector 7 market for Rs 15 a kg while these are available for Rs 10 in Sector 8. Last week these were available for Rs 10 in all markets.

Cauliflower is being sold in various markets for between Rs 35 and Rs 40. The price of a kg of capsicum has risen to Rs 24 in Sector 6, to Rs 30 in Sector 8 and to Rs 35 in Sector 9. These were available for Rs 40 each last week, after prices went up by Rs 10.

The prices of gourd and bittergourd have gone down to Rs 12 and Rs 16 against last week's prices of Rs 14 and Rs 20 a kg, respectively. A kg of ginger and garlic continue to be available for Rs 40 a kg. It was priced at Rs 60 last week. The price of lemon halved to Rs 32 a kg.

a kg of radish is available for Rs 16 in Sector 6, for Rs 14 in Sector 7 and for Rs 12 in Sector 11. It is priced at Rs 16 in most of the city markets.

The price of brinjal has gone down by Rs 4 and is available for Rs 12 a kg. The price of cabbage has also gone down from Rs 16 to Rs 12 in Sector 6 and Sector 8 markets.

Spinach is available for Rs 10 a kg. It had made its appearance in most of the markets last week. It was priced at Rs 16 last week.Back

 


YPS qualify for squash tourney

Chandigarh, Sept 6 — The squash team of Yadavindra Public School, SAS Nagar, has qualified for the finals of the North Zone Inter-school Team Championship, the semi-finals of which were held at Mayo College, Ajmer, today.

As per an information received here, the YPS team defeated Welham's Boys School, Dehradun, 3-0, in the semi-finals of the under-13 age group. The YPS will now take on the Mayo College 'A team' in the final which had beaten Modern School, New Delhi, 3-0.

The detailed scores are as follows: (YPS b WBS Dehradun 3-0); Manpreet Malhi b Arun Manchanda 9-4, 9-2, 9-1; Jai Sekhon b Karan Mehrotra 9-4, 9-1, 9-2; Harinder Singh b Abhishek Kapoor, 9-5, 9-1, 9-1.

The finalists in each group — under-13, under-15, under-17 and under-19 will play in the All-India Inter-school Finals to be held from September 13 to 18 at Delhi Gymkhana Club, New Delhi.

The finalists in other age group are as follows: Under-13 — YPS, SAS Nagar, and Mayo College 'A'; under-15 — Doon School, Dehradun, and Mayo College A; under-17 — Mayo College and RSM Inter College, Dhampur (UP).

Team returns

The team of Shivalik Public School, Sector 41, which was the lone entry from the city for the All-India Subroto Mukherjee Cup Soccer Tournament for Subroto Cup now in progress at Delhi, has returned after losing all three matches it played in the tournament.

In the first match of the tournament which began on September 1, the SPS team lost to Mount Carmel School, Mizoram, 1-4. In the second match, the SPS team was beaten by Bokaro City SAIL School, 0-1, and in the third match, Government Senior School, Sawai, Car Nicobar, whipped SPS team, 6-1.

The SPS team was cleared after a controversy had arisen between the two factions of the Chandigarh Football Association. One of the CFA units wanted to put Sanjay Public School team in the tournament. Finally, the UT Education Department allowed the SPS team to participate in the competition.

In the tournament, schools from all over India took part and the bes team from every unit was allowed to participate.Back
