Lawyers' strike:
The District Bar Association on Monday went on a strike in support of a call given by the Bar association of Ludhiana. According to Mr Rajinder Singh Salana, President of the association the strike will continue till Tuesday.

JALANDHAR
Recruitment rally:
The Army will organise a recruitment rally from September 12 to 26 at the Sikh Regimental Centre, Ramgarh Cantonment. The recruitment is only for Sikhs, other than Mazbis and Ramdasis. The candidates should be 16 to 21 years old and matriculate.

NAWANSHAHR
Prize distribution:
The Government Senior Secondary School, Sahiba, 20 km from here, organised a prize distribution function on Saturday. Mr Nandal, MLA, Balachaur, was the chief guest.

MOGA
Paddy arrival:
About 400 bags of new stock of paddy have arrived here. Stating this here on Monday, the President of the Moga Foodgrain Traders Association said at present there was no buyer for the crop as the moisture content was 22 per cent. The entire stock had, therefore, been transported to neighbouring districts by farmers who sold it at Rs 500 per quintal against the fixed price of Rs 520.
Drainage problem:
Residents of this town on Monday demanded effective measures for draining out sewage from streets as it could cause health problems. They said sewage was overflowing at various places and no arrangements had been made by the municipal committee for its drainage. According to reports, the government has sanctioned Rs 16 crore for this purpose but nothing had been done so far.

Camp: The Lions Club Chandigarh Greater held a medical camp at Karsan multipurpose project, in which 250 patients were examined and given free medicines. The club also distributed 11 scholarships of Rs 200 each for students of Government Middle School, Karsan, who had secured merit positions.

Awarded: Dr D.K. Sharma of the Holistic Health centre, Sector 20, has been awarded life membership of Medicina Alternativa. It will be conferred on him in the World Congress of New Age Medicine at Colombo.

SONEPAT
1 killed:
One person died and four others were injured when the three-wheeler in which they were travelling hit a roadways bus on the Sonepat-Murthal road, 6 km from here, on Sunday. The injured have been taken to the local Civil Hospital. The deceased has been identified as Pramod Kumar of Murthal village. While three of the injured as Ms Shanti Devi of Murthal, and Muni Devi and Shiv Kumar of Tikola village.
Suicide bid:
Sanjay, a labourer, consumed poison in an attempt to end his life at Badh Malik village, 15 km from here, on Sunday. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he was saved by doctors.
Kharif crop:
The prospects of the kharif crop, particularly paddy in this region, improved following widespread rain since on Sunday. According to a report, paddy growers say that they hope to reap a bumper crop this year because of timely rain.
