GARHSHANKAR
Dowry death:
The police has registered a case under Sections 304 B and 34 of the IPC after the death of Jaswinder Kaur of Makhsuspur village. She was allegedly forced to take poison because of the harassment by her in-laws for not bringing sufficient dowry.

Cases registered: Cases have been registered against 88 unregistered medical practitioners of the Mahilpur block in this subdivision, under Clause 15 of the Medical Council Act, 1956, and Clause 26 of the Drug and Cosmetics Act, 1940. No arrests have been made so far.

LUDHIANA
Prize distribution:
The prize distribution function of Bhartiya Vidya Mandir was held on Saturday at the school auditorium. As many as 167 meritorious students were awarded mementoes by the trustees of the Bhartiya Vidya Mandir Trust. The 47 students, placed in the merit list of the Punjab School Education Board's middle standard examination, have been awarded scholarship of Rs 5,525 each for a period of 17 months. They will be given Rs 2,275 later for seven months. The students were given the cheques for their scholarships along with the prizes.

MOGA
Burn injuries:
Virpaul Kaur (13) belonging to Kaleke village under the Baghapurana police station in the district on Saturday succumbed to burn injuries which she had received while preparing tea in her house. The gas cylinder reportedly had started leaking. Her body has been sent for postmortem.

PATIALA
Teachers honoured:
The local Rotary Club honoured five outstanding teachers of the city on the occasion of the Teachers' Day. Prof Sucha Singh, Dr Anita Gupta, Mr Rameshwar Parkash, Mrs Tripat Rahi and Prof Tarlochan Singh Mahajan were honoured on the occasion . The State Bank of Patiala Chief General Manager Sita Ram Murti, was the chief guest.

Medical camps: Four medical camps were organised at Raipur Khurd village on Sunday by the Shri Sathya Sai Organisation Seva Samiti No 6. a team of doctors examined 132 persons and provided them with free medicines. The samiti has now planned to open bal vikas centres, provide free coaching classes for the poor and hold talks on health hygiene and drug de-addiction at the village.

Mehra, Mr Gurdeep Chand Kalia, Mr Aditya Gupta and Mr Jatinder Gupta; and treasurer — Mr Rajesh Gupta.

Condolence meeting: The United Front Public Health Employees Union, UT, held a condolence meeting on Sunday in memory of late Mr Harbans Singh, former President of the union, and his wife, late Jagdish Kaur, who were killed in a road accident last month. Hundreds of trade union leaders and employees of the engineering department participated in the condolence meting.top

FATEHABAD
Beheaded:
Atma Singh (22) was beheaded at Nikoowala village in the district on Saturday by two persons of the same village. The victim allegedly had illicit relations with a woman which led to his murder.The police has registered a case under Section 302 of the IPC, but made no arrest so far. According to an FIR lodged by the victim's brother Bawaria, in Rattia police station, three persons Makhan Singh, Gurvinder Singh and Naib Singh of the same village — were allegedly involved in the murder.

Pesticide taken: A farm labourer took pesticide after injuring his wife at Bhuna in this district on Saturday. Both have been admitted to the local general Hospital. According to reports, the labourer, Jeet Singh (27), took this step allegedly after an altercation with his wife. In another incident, Hari Singh (40), a resident of Mehuwala village in the district died after consuming pesticide by mistake.

PANIPAT
Body recovered:
The police recovered the body of industrialist Ishwar Goel from West Jamuna Canal on Saturday. Ishwar Goel was reportedly missing for the past two months. According to reports he had driven away in his car after a family dispute and had entered the river. The roof of the car was noticed by people on Saturday after the water level in the canal decreased. It was reported to the police and the divers recovered the body and the car.

Theft: The Israna police has registered a case of canal water theft against two persons — Vinod, a resident of Jalmana village and Nafe Singh, a resident of Pardhana — on Saturday. The Assistant Engineer, Mr B.K. Khokar, has lodged a complaint against the two persons.

Cleanliness drive: The Minister of State for Tourism, Mr Om Prakash Jain, launched the cleanliness drive on Saturday by himself sweeping the road with a broomstick in Model Town. He was accompanied by 50 sweepers and officers of the Municipal Council and Public Health Department.

ROHTAK
Condemned:
Members of the Haryana Roadways Workers Union have condemned the attack on the roadways employees, who were staging a "peaceful" dharna on Friday. They were attacked by some "hired criminals" allegedly at the behest of the General Manager of the Haryana Roadways. The members said their agitation would continue till their demands were accepted.

Demand:
The Himachal Pradesh Ex-servicemen League has demanded 15 per cent reservation for their wards in government jobs. In a press note issued here on Sunday Col Kripal Singh, President of the district unit of the league urged the government to grant loans on nominal rate of interest to the ex-servicemen for their rehabilitation. He also demanded exemption of sales tax on certain items available in the CSD.

DALHOUSIE
Chamera project:
The 540-MW Chamera Hydroelectric Project (Stage -I) has generated 400.47 million units of power exceeding its target of 316.67 million units of power fixed for August this year. Er S.K. Dodeja, General Manager of the project, said here on Sunday that it was a record electricity generation ever since the Chamera Project was commissioned in 1994.
