BJP MLA held in murder case
RAJKOT, Sept 25 (UNI) — The BJP MLA from Morvi in Rajkot district, Mr Kantilal Amrutiya, was arrested last night for alleged involvement in the murder of former municipality president of Morvi town Prakash Raveshia. According to police sources, on September 16 Prakash Raveshia, an active BJP member, was allegedly stabbed to death in daylight by some unknown assailants at Morvi town, about 70 km from here. A key accused, Gangaram Tapu, during interrogation revealed that Amrutiya had hatched a plot to kill Raveshia.

Surat peaceful
GANDHINAGAR, Sept 25 (UNI) — The situation in Surat in south Gujarat, where seven persons died and many others were injured in police firing during the Ganesh immersion procession yesterday, was normal and peaceful today. Gujarat Minister of State for Home Haren Pandya said that no untoward incident was reported in Surat since yesterday's firing and a tight vigil was being kept there amid heavy police bandobast.

MLA expelled
JAIPUR, Sept 25 (PTI) — BJP member Madan Dilawar was expelled from the state assembly for a day today for his unruly behaviour after he tore off a copy of a Bill which was being debated in the House. Deputy Speaker Devendra Singh announced the expulsion after the House passed by a voice vote this motion moved by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Khet Singh Rathore to this effect.

2 cops held
BIJAPUR, Sept 25 (PTI) — Two police constables were nabbed by the Lok Ayukta officials here yesterday. Head Constable, L.D. Lamani and constable, C.R. Kalaqi were caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 3,000 from Mr Najersab Gulequdd in connection with the issuing of an FIR copy.

NEW DELHI, Sept 25 (UNI) — Former President S.D. Sharma was admitted to a hospital here after he fainted at home while doing puja this morning, according to his personal staff. Doctors at the Escorts Heart Research Institute, were he is being treated, said the condition of Dr Sharma was stable and there was no cause for concern.

25 feared drowned
SAMASTIPUR (Bihar) Sept 25 (UNI) — At least 25 persons were feared drowned when a boat capsized in the mid-stream of Margang near Chapra in this district yesterday. Police sources said here today that the accident occurred when the boat lost its balance due to strong wind. Sources said the local divers had been pressed into service.

Taiwan rocked
TAIPEI, Sept 25 (AFP) — A powerful earthquake aftershock hit Taiwan today, shaking buildings in the capital Taipei far away from the epicentre of the Tuesday's shockwave which killed about 2,000 persons. No figures on damage or casualties were immediately available but seismologists said the quake measured 5.6 on the Richter scale.
