India to launch satellites MUMBAI, Sept 28 (UNI) India will skyrocket into the next millennium by placing a series of remote sensing, communication and broadcasting satellites in orbit throwing open major areas of research, Space Commission Chairman D.K. Kasturirangan said today after receiving the first-ever Murli M. Chigani Memorial Award for excellence in applied physics instituted by the Indian Physics Association. In 2001-02, ISRO is planning to launch two Indian remote sensing (IRS) satellites IRS-P5 and IRS-P6. This will be followed by Oceansat II. Later on the cards is a climate and weather research satellite, Megha-Tropiques" he said. Meanwhile, the launch-pad for the much-talked GSLV is being made ready. WB
