Workshop for revival of theatre

Harpal Tiwana, a well-known theatre personality, seems to be all set with his guns to revive the theatre culture in Ludhiana, with the launching of a month-long theatre workshop with eminent theatre personalities like Nirmal Rishi and Neena Tiwana.

“I want to make Ludhiana a culture rich city of Punjab, as this city has given me a lot of love and affection. I have spent memorable nine years here,” said Tiwana. He said whatever he was today was only because of the Ludhiana people.

This theatre workshop will be helpful to select certain representatives from the city, who will establish the theatre culture in Ludhiana. The Ludhiana people have a lot of money but at the same time they require entertainment. True entertainment comes through theatre which reveals feelings, expressions, behaviour and reactions. One can discover himself through theatre. It is based on all the kinds of arts like music, literature and dance.

On asked about how he felt about the ‘dead’ theatre in Punjab, Tiwana replied that people took art as an ordinary thing.

There was need to make them aware of their inner self. Today people have hardly time to go into the depth of the nature.

Harpal Tiwana is a well-known theatre personality and film director, who has been into this line for the last forty years. His films include Long da lashkara. He has introduced famous film personalities like Raj Babbar, Girja Shankar, Om Puri and Nirmal Rishi —’Gulabo Massi of Long da lashkara fame.

His popular plays include Ucha dar babe Nanak da, Deeva bale sari raat, Nasha kursi da, Chandigarh museebatan da ghar and Dharam di chadar.
