Ranga

THE deposed Prime Minister of Pakistan Nawaz Sharif was in Delhi in 1991 to take part in the funeral ceremony of Rajiv Gandhi. I met him at Ashoka Hotel where he was staying. It was not difficult to meet him as one of the officials accompanying him recognised me and conducted me to his room.

He was in a hurry to meet someone. He made me sit in his room till he returned after a while. I showed him the picture I had drawn of him for his autograph. He appeared quite satisfied and happy. Without any hesitation placed his signature on it with the remark, "With profound regards". A similar copy was also ready for him to take back home.
