Bangaru Laxman rehabilitated
New Delhi, October 11
Mr Bangaru Laxman, who was unceremoniously removed from the post of President of the Bharatiya Janata Party on corruption charges, was rehabilitated recently when he was made the Chairman of the House Committee of the Rajya Sabha.
Mr Laxman was forced to quit the post a few months ago in the wake of allegations of defence deals sleaze when the camera team of the Tehelka portal showed him receiving money. The BJP leader, however, maintained that he collected money for party funds.Mr Laxman was the first Dalit leader to have been made the President of the BJP but he had to leave the post within six months of assuming office. NRI convicted in impersonation case
New Delhi, October 11
The designated court of the CBI in Mumbai convicted an NRI, Khubchand Madhavdas Bhatia, and sentenced him to undergo five years’ rigorous imprisonment in an impersonation case.
The convict opened SB accounts and NRE accounts jointly either with his wife, Jyoti Khubchand or his daughter in seven banks of Mumbai. He and his wife impersonated Purshottam Madhavdas and Vimla Purshottam, respectively and opened three ordinary accounts in another bank. The convict forged cheques amounting to more than 25 lakh in ordinary accounts and presented them in NRE accounts jointly with his family members. TNS
