Muslims in Hong Kong collect funds to aid Afghan refugees outside a mosque after Friday prayers on October 12, 2001. The International Red Cross appealed urgently for a total of HK$270 million (U.S.$34.6 million) to help Afghan refugees inside Afghanistan and at the borders, its Hong Kong unit said earlier in the week. A Red Cross statement said the organisation would transport medical supplies which can treat 2,50,000 people for three to six months from Pakistan to Afghanistan in the coming days. REUTERS
