Annual day of school

Tiny-tots of Sparkle Nursery School, Sarabha Nagar, celebrated the annual function of the school here today.

The cultural programme began with ‘Saraswati Vandana’. Kids dressed up like animals participated in short skits. Dance items were performed on the numbers ‘Main nikla gaddi le ke’ and ‘Pyar ki kashti mein’. Children with balloons in their hands sang ‘Bachon ke pyare balloon, ankhon ke tare balloon’. Ms Vandita Rajiv Raj, Principal, said the programme was organised with an aim to let the children know their hidden talents and shun their stage fright.

Man sentenced to 10-yr RI

Mr B.S. Mehndiritta, Additional Sessions Judge, Ludhiana, has convicted Parmod Kumar (22) of Uttar Pradesh and sentenced him to undergo rigorous imprisonment of 10 years, besides imposing a fine of Rs 1 lakh, for possessing 30 kg poppy husk.

“The drug trafficking is causing irreparable damage to society and weakening the nation. The perpetrators of such crimes deserve stringent punishment”, remarked the Judge while pronouncing the judgement.

According to prosecution, on June 24, 1999, a police party headed by the then Inspector Manjit Singh arrested him and seized poppy husk from his possession. A case under Section 15 of the NDPS Act was registered at the Sahnewal police station.
