8 killed as bus catches fire
Bangalore, October 24
Eight persons, including seven children, were killed and 13 injured when a state-owned bus caught fire near Lalwadi village in Karnataka’s Belgaum district today, the police said. While two of the injured were hospitalised, in Belgaum, the rest were treated as out-patients, state DGP V. V. Bhaskar said. PTI

Defence Minister George Fernandes today called on President K. R. Narayanan at Rasthrapati Bhavan here. The 30-minute meeting, which was described as a courtesy call, was the first by Mr Fernandes after his re-induction into the Union Cabinet. PTI
