Policemen attached with the PA to the DIG (Patiala Range) allegedly bashed up a hotelier in Phase 3B2 here yesterday. SI Krishan Kumar, PA to the DIG, had taken three rooms of Hotel Ganga Lodge on rent for the marriage of his sister.

City NGO to operate in Berlin

Jurgens, the journalist who exposed corruption during German Chancellor Dr Helmut Kohl’s reign and which resulted in resignation by Kohl, has agreed to open Berlin sub-chapter of a city-based NGO, the International Forum for Awareness and Accountability (IFAA).

A former president of the local civic body, Mr Sukhjeet Singh Sukhi, along with six other property dealers, has been booked for alleged indulgence in gambling in a hotel in Phase 9 here last night.

‘Lottery sellers’ dupe trader
Kharar, October 27
A local trader has been duped to the tune of Rs 15,000 by a two-member gang of lottery-ticket sellers here. A “migrant labourer” came to the shop of this trader just before a lottery ticket seller arrived there and tried to hard sell a ticket. 

Gang of scooter thieves busted
Chandigarh, October 27
With the arrest of two persons from the Student Centre in Panjab University, the police has claimed to have busted a gang of scooter thieves. The duo, identified as Harinder Singh alias Johnny, a resident of Sector 41, and Vijay Sethi, a resident of Zirakpur, were apprehended during a special naka.

About 35 boys and girls of different age groups participated at a dance competition organised by Preeti Dance Academy at Bal Bhavan in Sector 23, here yesterday. Though the competition was open to all dance forms, ranging from bhangra, Punjabi pop to western, latest Punjabi pop numbers dominated the scene. Ten-year-old Rishav danced to the tune of “Chal ni Gobindiey,” while Ramneet Kaur entertained the audience with her “Chan Chandni” number.

Spiritual seems to be the word for Nisha Sood and Gita Kumar, who have together brought alive a collection of over 100 works. The collection is about an entirely new medium. Cartouche (meaning expression) paintings, as they are called, seem to have been created with quite a passion.

The process of shifting the Northern Centre of the Sports Authority of India from Chandigarh to Sonepat was initiated when its foundation stone was laid by the Union Minister for Sports, Ms Uma Bharti. The employees in Chandigarh had never welcomed the change, but they refrained from speaking out for fear of being victimised.

Silver medal for Punjab under-14 cricket team

Punjab school boys under-14 cricket team won a silver medal in the 47th National School Games in cricket held at New Delhi recently. Mr Satwant Singh Gill, Principal, Government Senior Secondary School, Nadha (Ropar), who went with the team as Manager told this reporter that the team led by Anmol Sharda performed brilliantly to attain this feat.
