Pak tribals take over airstrip
Ready to go on front, Taliban say hold on

Islamabad, October 29
Thousands of armed pro-Taliban tribesmen today took over an airstrip in the remote Pakistani border town of Chilas and broke open a jail in the area, releasing 36 prisoners to protest against the military regime’s support to the US-led strikes in Afghanistan.

Call to topple Pervez
Lay siege to Islamabad: Jamaat

Lahore, October 29
Jamaat-e-Islami chief Qazi Hussain Ahmad has called on the people to lay siege to Islamabad and remove Psresident Pervez Musharraf who is siding with “enemies” against Afghan brothers. Addressing an anti-US rally here on Sunday, he said the decision to lay siege to Islamabad would be taken unanimously by all religious parties.

Germany shares India’s concern

Germany today said the global war against terrorism must target its all dimensions and extend cooperation to India in the battle against terrorism. Visiting German Interior Minister Otto Schilly, who had a 90-minute meeting with Union Home Minister L K Advani, shared India’s concern over cross-border terrorism.  (28k, 56k)

HP hikes power tariff by 15 pc
Shimla, October 29
A hike of 15 per cent in power tariff in Himachal Pradesh was ordered today by the state Electricity Regulatory Commission to fetch an additional annual revenue of Rs 77.71 crore for the HPSEB. Besides the 15 per cent hike, consumers will also have to pay a winter surcharge of 25 paise per unit from November to March. The winter surcharge for big industries and other large consumers will be 20 paise per unit.
