USA keeps up air blitz
Laden’s suspected centres targeted

Kabul, October 30
US warplanes targeted suspected underground command centres of Osama bin Laden and his Al-Qaida network as also the Taliban stronghold of Kandahar amidst reports today that opposition Northern Alliance forces have mobilised hundreds of elite fighters near the frontline north of Kabul.


The US military will continue bombing the Taliban and al-Qaeda hideouts.

No place for Taliban in future Afghan Govt: India
New Delhi, October 30
India has made clear that “the Taliban have no place in a future government in Afghanistan”. The country’s opposition to Taliban’s participation in any future Afghan government was disclosed by Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajapyee at the two-hour all-party meeting today.



USA cautions against fresh terrorist attacks

The USA has warned that militants may be plotting new attacks on US targets at home and abroad against a background of international unease about civilian deaths in its attacks on Afghanistan. (28k, 56k)

The police arrested 13 Islamic militants today, following the killing of 15 Christians during a Sunday service in the central Pakistani city of Bahawalpur, a senior police officer said.

Pak will not beg for meeting: Pervez

Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf today said he was not deterred by India’s refusal to hold a summit at the United Nations next month and said he would not beg for the talks. "I am not disappointed,’’ he said in an interview with Reuters Television.

Rocket attack on Army camp
Major hurt in IED blast

Srinagar, October 30
Eleven militants and two soldiers were among 17 persons killed while militants attacked an army camp with rockets in the Kashmir valley since last evening. In Jammu a BSF jawan was killed. A Major was hurt in an IED blast.

Punjab gets 1000 cr for lifting paddy
Ludhiana, October 30
The RBI has released Rs 1,000 crore under the cash credit limit for the Punjab Government for making payment to farmers. The RBI had sanctioned a cash credit limit of Rs 6,300 crore to Punjab for the purchase of paddy.
