US warplanes today intensified attacks on Taliban frontline positions north of the capital Kabul, carpet bombing two locations near the opposition-held airport of Bagram.

Lambah special envoy on Afghanistan

The government today appointed Mr S. L. Lambah, former High Commissioner to Pakistan, as special envoy on Afghanistan in view of the growing international focus on the war-ravaged country.

Jawan killed in Pak shelling

A jawan was killed and seven others, including a porter, were injured in heavy shelling by Pakistani troops along the Line of Control in North Kashmir today, official sources said.
