Attack on Sikh youth, two held
London, October 31
The police said today that they had arrested two persons following an attack on a young Sikh by a gang of Muslims carrying hammers and crowbars in Derby. Harjit Singh Sandhu (22) was admitted to hospital with a broken leg, ankle and nose and cuts on his face and head after being attacked in the Normanton area of the county on October 29, the police said today. About 50 Sikhs took to the streets to protest against the increasing assaults by Muslim youths, but were dispersed by the police.

Flag march
Nasik, October 31
The Army, Rapid Action Force, state reserve police force and the police staged a flag march in Maharashtra’s Malegaon tehsil where sporadic violence was reported despite strict imposition of curfew restrictions for the sixth consecutive day today. A total of 13 persons have been killed and more than 350 arrested since the riots started last Friday in protest against the US attack on Afghanistan. The charged and opened fire to disperse the violent mob. Arson followed. The police fired in the air to disperse a mob after a riot-scare in Kalwan and Nampur villages today.

Fire at N-reactor

A fire broke out today at a facility housing a prototype Japanese fast-breeder nuclear reactor but was quickly brought under control, the police said.

66 gold bars seized
Mumbai, October 31
Sixty six gold bars worth Rs 33.15 lakh were seized from the toilet of Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport here and an Indian passenger has been arrested in this connection, customs sources said today.
