USA bans Lashkar, Jaish terrorist groups
Washington, November 3
The USA has banned two Pakistan-based terrorist groups operating in Jammu and Kashmir, conceding one of India’s major demands four days before the arrival of Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee. LeT and JeM, which have been blamed for several terrorist attacks in India’s Jammu and Kashmir state, have been branded Foreign Terrorist Organisations (FTO) in the USA.

Taliban lose key district
Islamabad, November 3
In the first major defeat at the hands of opposition forces since the launch of US military operation in Afghanistan, the ruling Taliban today lost a key district near the town of Mazar-i-Sharif, but said they would not shy away from fighting the war with the USA even during Ramzan.
The Northern Alliance says US ground troops would be needed to gain complete control of the Bagram airfield.

UN instrument of crimes: Bin Laden
Doha, November 3
Suspected terrorist mastermind Osama bin Laden said the UN is “an instrument of crimes” against Muslims and that leaders of Arab UN members are “infidels,” in a videotape broadcast today by Qatar’s Al-Jazeera television.

20 killed in bus mishap
Srinagar, November 3
At least 20 bus passengers were killed and 45 injured when the bus in which they were travelling fell into a 400-ft deep gorge near Bandipore, about 45 km north of here, this afternoon.


Cops heave sigh of relief
Amritsar, November 3
Mounting pressure on the international border and the international fight against terrorism notwithstanding, thousands of policemen and security personnel heaved a sigh of relief as the first-ever executive committee meeting of the BJP, featuring the Prime Minister and the Home Minister, besides others, ended here this afternoon peacefully.
