246 feared dead in US plane crash
Washington, Nov 12
An American Airlines passenger jet bound for Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republican crashed shortly after takeoff from John F. Kennedy Airport on Monday, the Federal Aviation Administration said.

We will never part with Kashmir: Vajpayee

In a fresh war of words with Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf constantly harping on Kashmir aimed at internationalising the issue, Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee today categorically said that India would never part with Kashmir. Highly agitated by General Musharraf’s gambit of trying to wrest Kashmir from India, Mr Vajpayee was emphatic that the military dictator had only one issue in his mind.

Bush offers to bring India, Pak together for talks
New York, November 11
In yet another expression of America’s new-found love for Pakistan, US President George W. Bush offered to bring India and Pakistan together to have “good and meaningful” talks on Kashmir taking into account the wishes of the people of the state, even as he announced $ 1 billion in US aid as an additional reward to Pakistan.

Taliban lose more towns
Islamabad, November 11
Afghanistan’s opposition Northern Alliance said it captured the northern province of Takhar, including the capital Taloqan, which it lost a year ago, in fighting today, a spokesman said. “We have just received information from the front that Takhar has fallen,” Northern Alliance spokes-man Ashraf Nadeem said by satellite telephone.

British Defence Minister Geoff Hoon today dismissed reported claims by Osama bin Laden that he had a nuclear bomb and was prepared to use it, but said the militant had managed to get hold of nuclear material.

19 militants gunned down in Poonch
Jammu, November 11
The security forces achieved a major success when they eliminated 19 hardcore militants in three encounters in Poonch district today. According to the police, on receipt of information the Army and the police carried out a joint operation against the ultras who were hiding at two places at Jalian and Bandi Kama Khan in the Mandi area of Poonch district.


Shops, serai razed on ‘divine order’
Shimla, November 11
To fulfil the “divine orders”, hundreds of residents of five adjoining villages have converged on Vashisht near Manali to do “kar seva” for demolishing buildings which have been identified by the oracle as encroachments.
