Our Correspondent

Ludhiana, November 12
The Punjab Health Department Subordinate Officers Clerical Association today staged a state-level dharna outside the Civil Surgeonís office to protest against the recruitment of two senior assistants in the department.

Mr Sukhwinder Singh, president of the association, while talking to Ludhiana Tribune said the higher authorities in the Health Department had appointed Mr Sanjiv Kumar and Mr Kuldeep Singh as senior assistants. He alleged that both were close relatives of the Health Minister and Chairman of the Punjab Subordinate Services Selection Board. With these appointments, the officials had violated all rules and regulations.

The president said persons having service experience of over 30 years were not considered for these posts. The employees threatened that if these recruitments were not cancelled by November 19, they would resort to more dharnas and protest rallies in the state.

Mr Darshan Singh Latala, general secretary of the association, said these posts were based on promotional scheme. Senior persons with over 30 years of experience were neglected by the department officials, he added
