Chowdhury elected Bangladesh President
Dhaka, November 12
Prof A.Q.M. Badruddoza Chowdhury was today declared the new President of Bangladesh. He was elected unopposed as his rival, Barrister Rowsan Ali, withdrew his candidature. Election Commission (EC) sources said Barrister Ali had quit the race by submitting his letter of withdrawal this morning. Professor Badruddoza Chowdhury, who was appointed Foreign Minister in Prime Minister Khaleda Zia’s coalition government, will be the 14th President of Bangladesh. UNI

2 ministers quit
Shillong, November 12
Education Minister T.H. Rangad and Minister of State for Art and Culture A.L. Hek today resigned from the E.K. Mawlong ministry in Meghalaya. The two BJP ministers, who were demanding the resignation of Mr Mawlong, quit the Meghalaya Parliamentary Forum government with immediate effect, sending the 19 months of the ministry in crisis.
