Making a dramatic advance, the opposition Northern Alliance forces captured Afghan capital Kabul this morning taking over the presidential palace and other major installations amidst scenes of chaos and jubilation driving away Taliban fighters to their southern stronghold of Kandahar.

India may not be averse at some later stage to involving the liberals among the Taliban in the proposed broad-based government in Afghanistan but the immediate task is to send the militia regime packing from Kabul.

Mullah Omar taken to Gilgit
Bin Laden still in Afghanistan

Taliban supremo Mullah Mohammad Omar has been evacuated from Afghanistan and taken to Gilgit (northern areas) in Pakistan with the help of the Inter Services Intelligence (ISI), while the Mullah’s family and Osama bin Laden are still at separate places in Afghanistan, according to the latest classified reports received here.
