Temple row: jatha happy at directive

Wages of poverty: illegal confinement
Alamgir (Ludhiana), November 17
A theft of just 2 kg of cooking oil proved too dear for a starving labourer employed in a factory in this village. He was allegedly kept in illegal confinement for over 10 days and beaten regularly by the factory staff. The labourer, Vijay Kumar, 20, was finally rescued today by a team of Maraudo Chowki police under the Sadar police station.

Preparations for National Games in top gear

Hectic preparations are afoot here for the 31st National Games which will begin at the Guru Nanak Dev Stadium on Monday. The stadium has been decked up to welcome the participants. The city is abuzz with activity as preparations are being made at full pace.

Robbers’ gang  busted

The Sahnewal police has claimed to have arrested three members of a gang of robbers involved in many robberies in and around Sahnewal for the past several months.

Rich tributes paid to martyrs

The martyrdom day of Kartar Singh Sarabha and Vishnu Ganesh Pingle was observed at Punjabi Bhavan yesterday by the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Vichar Manch. Rich tributes were paid to the Gadar revolutionaries who laid down their lives for the freedom of the country.

The All-India Youth Federation today held a massive rally to create awareness about the employment generation among the masses here. The rally started from the ancestral village of Shaheed Kartar Singh Sarabha and ended in the city.

One killed in road accident
Ludhiana, November 17
The Focal Point police has registered a case under Sections 427, 279 and 304-A of the IPC against the driver of a bus ( PB-28 4919) for causing death to Rajinder Kumar, a Bihari migrant, near Sherpur on Thursday. According to the complaint lodged by Mr Raj Kumar, an uncle of the deceased boy , he was carrying his nephew on the cycle when the bus hit the cycle from behind, as a result of which Rajinder Kumar was seriously injured.

Declamation contest
Ludhiana, November 17
The Department of Extension Education, Panjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, organised a district-level declamation contest for members of youth clubs of Jalandhar district. Eighteen participants from different schools participated in this contest.

The Brotherhood Society organised a scholarship distribution function at Khalsa Girls Senior Secondary School, Civil Lines, to give annual scholarships to needy school and college girls.

Free acupressure camp opens 
Doraha, November 17
A free acupressure treatment camp organised by the Progressive Youth Federation, Doraha, was inaugurated by Mrs Raj Rani, municipal councillor, today.
The patients shall be treated free of cost at the two-day camp.

Dental fortnight begins
Ludhiana, November 17
The Department of Health and Family Welfare, Punjab, is celebrating a dental fortnight in all the civil hospitals. The fortnight was inaugurated at the Civil Hospital by Dr Rajinder Kaur, Civil Surgeon, here today.

GHG Khalsa trounce GTB college
Ludhiana, November 17
In a one-sided affair, GHG Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar, defeated GTB National College, Dakha 11-0 in the final of the Panjab University Zonal Women’s Football Championship played at Sardara Singh Sports Complex of GHG Khalsa College. Manjit Kaur and Sukhjit Kaur scored 4 goals each, while Harkamaljot found the target twice and Baljit scored one goal.
