Jaya sacks Pondy Speaker from party
Chennai, November 23
In a sudden move, the AIADMK today sacked Pondicherry Assembly Speaker D. Ramachandran from the primary membership of the party amidst rumours that he was contemplating joining the Congress. In a statement here, AIADMK supremo Jayalalitha said Mr Ramachandran had been removed for acting against the ideology of the party and attempting to bring “disrepute” to it. PTI

TDP leader shot
Khammam (Andhra Pradesh), November 23
A leader of the ruling Telugu Desam Party (TDP) Shashi Kumar Goud was gunned down by suspected extremists belonging to the banned CPI (ML) People’s War Group at Ilendu town, 40 km from here, late last night. The police said the TDP leader, who was the president of the Ilendu TDP unit, was sitting in his party office when three assailants barged in and opened five rounds of fire at him.
