Attack on Jawahar tunnel picket Srinagar, November 25 The attack follows a suicide attack on an Army convoy on the highway at Ramban in Doda district on November 18. Those killed included Head Constable Mohammad Yousuf and Constable Mohammad Iqbal of IRP Battalion 3 of the Jammu and Kashmir Police. Three others injured, including an SI of the ITBP, have been shifted to Verinag hospital. Elsewhere in the Kashmir valley at least seven persons, including three militants and two security personnel, were killed in separate incidents since yesterday. Two militants of the Al-Badr outfit were killed in the Ganderbal area near here yesterday. One AK rifle, eight magazines, one pistol, one UBGL, one wireless set, eight rifle grenades, 300 rounds, of ammunition, two pistol magazines, three hand grenades and eight pistol rounds of ammunition were recovered from the site of the encounter. The Army and SOG of the Jammu and Kashmir Police killed militant Aijaz Ahmad Khan at Chak-e-Rishipora, Bandipore, in Baramula district yesterday. Two security personnel were also killed in the exchange of fire. One pistol, one magazine were recovered from the slain militant, the police here said.
JAMMU: Security will be beefed up along the Jammu-Srinagar national highway on the south of Pir Panjal following increased militant activity in the area, top defence sources said here on Sunday. |
