JKPDP slams Farooq for implementing POTO Jammu, December 1 Talking to mediapersons at the state party headquarters here today, JKPDP vice-president Mehbooba Mufti expressed fears that the National Conference (NC) government might use the ordinance as a tool against the opposition parties in the Kashmir valley, which if done, would alienate people further. She said Dr Abdullah perhaps wanted to prove to New Delhi that he was the only Indian in the state. Ms Mufti said the need for POTO was uncalled for as there were enough laws to deal with terrorism. “You can’t win people’s heart through POTO despite severe crisis prevailing in Afghanistan, world leaders are debating on establishing a stable government there,” she said. The JKPDP leader dismissed the regional autonomy issue as an electoral stunt of the NC and the BJP. Ms Mufti demanded that Dr Abdullah step down at least two months before the assembly elections and that the poll be held under the Governor’s rule.

It has been further found that the then Tehsildar, Mohammad Shafi Kochay, presently posted as Agrarian Tehsildar, Sumbal-Baramula, had received Rs 1.7 lakh from the so-called lessee. However, it was not credited into government treasury account. After investigation, another scam in respect of a plot at Gogji Bagh was detected, in which Rs 5 lakh had been embezzled. The allotment of the plot could not have escaped the notice of the Assistant Commissioner if he had compiled with government direction to make fresh inventories of records and properties. The duties of Assistant Commissioner, Nazool, have been assigned to Mr Shahid Iftekhar, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar, whereas Tehsildar Territorial, Sumbal, will hold the charge of Agrarian Tehsildar.
