Maoists blast MPís house

Kathmandu, December 6
Maoists in Nepal attacked the residence of a ruling party MP at Birendranagar in Surkhet district, completely destroying the house, even as security forces intensified their operation in the rebel strongholds, including the mid-western districts, arresting 27 terrorists.

Nepali Congress MP Hridayaram Thani, said the rebels exploded a powerful bomb at his house last night but nobody was hurt in the incident.

Night curfew has been imposed in the district after the incident.

The army and the police, meanwhile, arrested 27 terrorists having links with the underground Maoist party, the Defence Ministry said in a note here.

While three terrorists, including a woman, Sita Choudhry, were picked up from Bardia district, six arrests were made in Kabhrepalanchowk district, 14 in Nala in Bhaktapur district. PTI

Six militants killed in Jammu and Kashmir

Srinagar, December 6
Five persons, including four militants, were killed and 12 others injured in Jammu and Kashmir overnight.

An official spokesman said security forces gunned down two militants each at Mohra Bachai and Manjakote during search operations last evening and recovered a large cache of arms and ammunition from them.

Meanwhile, at the busy Maharaj Bazaar, militants hurled a hand grenade towards a border security force patrol party this afternoon.

However, the grenade missed the intended target and exploded on the roadside, leaving nine pedestrians injured. The condition of one of them is stated to be critical.

At Shrarakwala Baramula, unidentified gunmen shot dead a judicial employee, Mohammad Ashraf Lone, at his house early this morning.

Militants also shot at and wounded a released militant Mushtaq Ahmad Sofi at Zaindar Mohalla this afternoon, while a girl, Shabnam, was injured when a grenade she was fiddling with exploded at Rajouri last evening.
