Devinder Bir Kaur pays a tribute to the Grand Old Man of the Silver Screen. For a man who was reluctant to become an actor, Ashok Kumar went on to give memorable and sensitive portrayals in a career that spanned seven decades.

HE is one woman you could call a witch without the risk of getting hurled with abuses or stones. On the contrary she will only smile and acknowledge the ‘compliment’. This is just as well, for she has been nurturing her witch-image since so long that to call her a witch only authenticates and sanctifies her preternatural persona.
