Case registration scheme fails

Case-I: A two-year-old child dies in a local hospital. The family belonged to a village near Jalandhar and had brought the child here after the doctors there expressed their helplessness in saving the child. The aggrieved family lodged a complaint against a Jalandhar-based doctor with the police.

Man held for snatching
Jagraon, December 20
Kishori Lal, who originally belongs to UP but now lives in Ludhiana, was arrested by the Dakha police when he was trying to snatch a bag containing about Rs 13,000 from Ravinder Kumar, a salesman of Shivalik Gas Agency at Mullanpur. He has been booked under Sections 382 and 511 of the IPC.

Industrialists resent recovery of house tax 
Ludhiana, December 20
The industrial units in the Focal Point, Phase VI and VII have resented the decision of the Municipal Corporation, Ludhiana, to charge house tax from 1995-96. They claimed that Mr Parkash Singh Badal,Chief Minister, Punjab had announced that house tax will be charged from the industrial units in Focal Point from the date when the area was taken over by it for maintenance.

It is examination time in colleges

After the longest-ever break in aided and unaided colleges of Punjab, it is examination time now for students. While principals of most of the colleges today declared that the examinations will begin tomorrow, the students resented that the datesheet was given at a short notice.

H.R. Dhanda is Bar Association president
Ludhiana, December 20
Mr Harish Rai Dhanda has been elected president of the District Bar Association for the sixth time. He defeated Mr M.C. Seghal by a margin of 477 votes, here today. He got the support of 822 lawyers while his only opponent got 345 votes.

HDFC Bank penalised
Ludhiana, December 20
The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum has directed HDFC Bank, The Mall, Ludhiana, to pay Rs 1,000 as compensation for delay in collecting the amount of a cheque deposited by Mr Ram Tirath, proprietor of New Cloth House, Fountain Chowk.
