Admn amends scheme for giving land to schools

The Chandigarh Administration has amended the scheme for the allotment of land to educational Institutions (schools), 1996, on a lease-hold basis and also revised the land rates.

PU teachers get self-appraisal forms
Responses expected by April 30; no amendment in scheme

There are differences over the implementation of the scheme of yearly self-assessment of professional achievements of Panjab University teachers.
The matter had been resolved in the Senate and the scheme was to be implemented after necessary amendments.

‘Robber’ held; clues to many cases found

The police has arrested an assailant, Kirpal, from outside Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital in New Delhi month-and-a-half after a shootout in a poultry farm of Gajipur village along the Chandigarh-Ambala highway near Zirakpur.

Co-op bank staff for revision of special pay

In response to a statement by the Managing Director, Punjab State Cooperative Bank, the Cooperative Bank Employees Federation has said that various demands were discussed with the Registrar, Cooperative Societies, Punjab. He had agreed to accept these demands but only two demands had so far been accepted.

CRIME

Tribune Bureau chief’s car stolen
SAS Nagar, December 21
A white Zen car, belonging to The Tribune Chief of Bureau, Mr Prabhjot Singh, was stolen from Phase V here today.
The car was parked in front of the local branch of Ajit Karam Singh International Public School which is run in a house in the area. Mrs Maninder Kaur, wife of Mr Prabhjot Singh, works as a teacher in the school.

Man killed in road mishap
Chandigarh, December 21
A Sector 38 resident, Harish Chander, was killed on the spot after a car being driven by his son rammed into a truck parked on the Sectors 24-25 dividing road last night. According to a complaint lodged by the truck driver, Mehma Singh, a resident of Ropar, the incident happened at about 1.30 am.

Panjab University has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Nuclear Science Centre, New Delhi, for collaboration in joint academic activities and research.

Coaching for CS (Prelim) at PU IAS centre

The IAS Centre of Panjab University will begin coaching classes for the preparation of the Civil Services (Preliminary) examination from January 16, 2002. Enrolment of candidates will be done on the basis of an entrance test.

The entire building of Kinder World School here seemed to be enveloped in the red and green festoons during the Christmas celebrations held today. Chirpy tiny tots of the School seemed to be taken in by the Christmas spirit, who were singing carols and calling for Santa Claus.

NIFD students celebrate Xmas

Students of the National Institute of Fashion Design began festive season celebrations with a glittering Christmas bash on the NIFD campus in Sector 8 here today. The textile design students played innovatively with yards of white and red cloths to create a beautiful ambience and decor that set off the mood on the occasion.

Daily-wagers’ plea dismissed

Anxiety was writ large on the faces of the daily-waged and contractual employees of the Punjab School Education Board after a Division Bench of the Punjab and Haryana High Court dismissed the plea for regularising their services in the board. They fear their services would be terminated by the board.

SPS-44, GMSSS-35 to clash for title

Sanjay Public School, Sector 44, made it to the final of the inter-school cricket tournament organised for Shivalik Trophy when they outplayed Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 35, by 40 runs. Now Sanjay Public School will take on DAV Senior Secondary School, Sector 8, tomorrow at the Sector 16 Cricket Stadium.

Golf Club poll today
Chandigarh, December 21
The Golf club goes to the polls tomorrow. The polling will begin at 11 am and ends at 4 pm. A total of 1,800 permanent members enjoy the right to vote in the poll.
Going by past voting patterns, polling is expected to be between 55 and 60 per cent. Counting of votes will take place on Sunday at 9 am.

MC list for house tax assessment

The Municipal Council has published a list of shops, houses, industries, land and other commercial properties for the assessment of house tax for 2001- 2002.
Mr O.P. Sihag, Executive Officer of the council, has informed that this list was also displayed on the notice board of the MC office for inspection of public, falling in MC area.
