The hopes of a family belonging to this village, 30 km from here, of providing their daughter with marital bliss in Canada has proved too tragic for the girl. She was first used as a tool by an NRI family to get their otherwise ineligible Moga-based son to immigrate to that country and was then allegedly harassed, mentally and physically, for more dowry.

Electricity producer waiting for a miracle

While the Punjab State Electricity Board is passing through a difficult phase due to state government’s ‘irrational policy’ of providing free electricity to the agricultural sector, an entrepreneur, Mr Avtar Singh Dev, belonging to the Ramgarhia community, traditionally known for entrepreneurial skills, has claimed that he can produce up to 1000-1500 kv of electricity every day by making use of the surplus heat and steam produced in a steel re-rolling mill, without any additional cost.

HC notice to bank chairman

The Punjab and Haryana High Court has issued a notice to the Chairman of the Punjab and Sind Bank after accepting a writ petition, filed by about 100 employees of the bank, who have sought restoration of various benefits denied to them at the time of retirement under the Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VRS) last year.
