Bomb hoax at railway station

New Delhi, December 25
Panic gripped the New Delhi railway station here on Christmas evening after unidentified baggage was found near the escalator on platform number 1 on the Paharganj side of New Delhi railway station. The Chief Public Relations Officer, Northern Railway, Davinder P.S. Sandhu confirmed that the baggage led to a lot of scare in the wake of recent terrorist strikes on Parliament House. He said that the bag was examined by a bomb disposal squad but nothing suspicious was found.

27 die in train crash
Jakarta, December 25
A packed passenger train slammed into a stationary train also loaded with travellers in Indonesia’s Central Java province early today, killing at least 27 persons and seriously injuring dozens, officials said. A local police official said the accident happened near the town of Brebes around 4 a.m. (2.30 a.m. IST). “The latest count so far is 27 dead,” an official at Brebes Public Hospital said. Reuters

3 Maoists killed
Kathmandu, December 25
Three Maoist rebels were killed and eight others arrested across Nepal in the last 24 hours, a Defence Ministry press statement said today. “Among the three killed, Deep Bahadur Bom died in action while trying to escape from the army detention,” the statement said. Bom was the local district level Maoist government secretary and former army chief of the Movement’s army. AFP

J&K rocked
New Delhi, December 25
An earthquake of slight intensity hit Jammu and Kashmir this morning, Meteorological Department said here. The quake, measuring 4.6 on the Richter scale, was felt at latitude 35.71 north and longitude 76.08 east in the region at 11.15 a.m. PTI

Jailbreak case
Patna, December 25
The Bihar Government has removed the Jail Superintendent, jailer and assistant jailer of the Nawada district jail in connection with the escape of eight prisoners on Sunday. Minister of State for Jails Ashok Choudhury, who along with the Inspector-General of Prisons visited the jail yesterday to inquire into the incident, told reporters here today that the three jail officials had been removed from their posts.
