Judicial remand for MC officials Ambala, December 29 The bureau authorities had recovered Rs 10 lakh from the residence of the cashier. The duo were earlier sent to police remand till December 29. The Executive Officer, Arvind Kumar, and the cashier, Surinder Badhwa, were produced in the court of Duty Magistrate, Mr Jasbir Singh, here today afternoon. The counsel of the Vigilance Bureau requested the court to extend the police remand for some more days as the investigation had not been completed. The counsels of the officials opposed the request. They said the officials remained in police custody for five days during which the
bureau authorities could not collect even a single case of corruption against them. They said nothing was pending for further investigation. The magistrate after hearing hour-long arguments of both sides remanded them in judicial custody till January 10. |

HAU to introduce social marketing Chandigarh, December 29 This was revealed at a specially convened meeting chaired by the Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister, Mr S.Y. Quraishi, to review the follow-up action taken by CCSHAU and the Department of Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, Rural Development and Command Area Development Authority on two-day workshop on ‘‘Revamping of Extension Education — Scope of Social Marketing Approach’’ held recently at Hisar. It may be recalled that while inaugurating this workshop, the Chief Minister had called for a thorough revamp of agriculture extension education system to enable farmers to derive full benefit of latest agriculture research. Four Departments of the Haryana Government and the leading agricultural university of the country namely Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University (CCSHAU), Hisar, which have decided to introduce the concept of social marketing made presentations at today’s meeting to discuss their project in detail and seek opinion of Mr Quraisi, senior officers of the state government and other experts. |
Three armed men kill youth Fatehabad, December 29 According to reports, three armed youths came on a scooter near the village telephone exchange and opened fire on Mr Bhoop Singh standing there. The bullets also hit one Vinod Kumar who was sitting in a nearby dairy and Sunil, a teenaged boy who was passing by on a bicycle. Bhoop Singh received bullet injuries on his back; Vinod Kumar in his chest while Sunil Kumar received injuries on his leg. The three assailants escaped after committing the crime. The injured persons were rushed to hospitals where Vinod succumbed to his injuries while the other two were operated upon. Bhoop Singh identified the three assailants as Mahaveer, Subhash and Lahri. He said Mahaveer nursed a grudge against him as he murdered Mahaveer’s father in 1980. He said he had already served life term for the crime but Mahaveer was trying to take revenge of that murder and had made three attempts on his life. |
YC leader Mayna dies
in mishap Rohtak, December 29 The mishap occurred when the car in which they were travelling to Narwana to attend a party programme, collided with a Haryana Roadways Bus coming from the opposite direction. While Mayna (30) died on the spot, five Youth Congress workers — J.P. Dubey, Jagat Pal, Bheem Singh, Sonu and Bhupender-injured in the accident were rushed to the PGIMS here for treatment. Hailling from Mayna village in the district, Mayna had held several key posts in the Congress organisation before he was appointed in charge of the Youth Congress affairs in Punjab and UP about a year ago. Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee (HPCC) President Bhupinder Singh Hooda, HPCC spokesman Pradeep Singh Poonia, HPCC general secretary Chakarvarty Sharma, Rohtak District Congress Committee (Rural) President Virender, local MLA and DCC (Urban) President Shadi Lal Batra and District Youth Congress (Urban) President Shadi Lal have condoled the death of Mayna.

others held Kaithal, December 29 They were booked under Sections 148, 149, 153, 283 and 341 and 506, IPC for allegedly disturbing peace, blocking road and threatening roadways drivers of dire consequences if they failed to stop their vehicles. They were produced before the Judicial Magistrate, Ms Shashi Bala, who remanded them in judicial custody till January 11. The local Congressmen, including Mr Randhir Rana, secretary HPCC, Mr Dalbir Punia, president of district legal cell have condemned the state government for being “vindicitive” towards parth workers. They said the government was implicating the Congress leaders and workers in the state to demoralize them. |
