The inaugural programme of the six-day dental health mela, organised by the Christian Dental College (CDC) was held here today.
Dr N.C. Mann, senior consultant, CDC, in a press statement said the rally on anti-tobacco and oral hygiene was flagged off by Mr S.S.Sandhu, 3rd IRB Commandant, on the occasion. More than 500 students took part in the rally to convey the message of positive oral health and the ill effects of tobacco chewing.
On-the-spot poster making contest and other competitions on skits, folk songs on oral health were held in which the students of BCM Arya Model Senior Secondary School bagged the first prize while Wylie School and St. Thomas School were declared 1st and 2nd runners-up, respectively.
More than 500 patients attended the free dental camps. About 100 extractions were done and 50 restorations were carried out. In addition to this, cleaning of teeth was done of 50 patients and 70 patients had been registered for free artificial dentures.
In his inaugural address, Mr D.R.Bhatti, Additional Director General of Police Punjab, the chief guest on the occasion stressed the need of keeping the teeth clean. Only clean oral cavity with clean teeth can maintain good oral and general health, said Mr Bhatti.
While introducing the aims and objectives of the mela, Dr J.L. Joshi, Principal and Deputy Director of the Christian Medical College and Hospital (CMCH), said mela was organised to celebrate 10 glorious years of existence of the college. The CDC was the only private college in the state to start the PG course. Dr Joshi also announced that all the patients attending the dental mela would be given concessional treatment at the CDC.
Dr Basant Pawar, Deputy Director of the CMC, inaugurated the oral health exhibition and dietary clinic on the occasion.
