Rannia, Roomi sail through

Kila Raipur went down fighting against Rannia 3-4 while Sansarpur lost to Roomi 4-5 in hockey in the annual sports festival organised by the Boparai Sports and Cultural Club at Ghudani Kalan village, about 20 km from here today. In other matches, Dhamot beat Hamidi 3-1, Mukandpur defeated Rampur 1-0, Takhanwadh prevailed upon Manki 1-0, Attiana drubbed Ghaloti 4-0 while Doraha outplayed Shahpur 4-0.

In football (open), Sarabha b Ghudani Kalan 2-0, Khanna b Dhru 3-1, Dango b Gurm 6-5, Ghutani b Naromajra 6-5, Hambowal b Daumajra 4-0, Khanna b Pathankot 2-1, Ghudani Kalan b Dhamot 2-0.

In kabaddi (52 kg), Sidhwa b Ghudani Kalan 36-14, Lasadha b Ghuani 15-13, Nadinenada b Ghudani Kalan (B) 22-17, Jogi Manara b Ghudani Kalan (C) 27-17, Dalha b Ghaloti 21-13 and Seehadodh b Jogi Majari 13-11.

As many as 90 bullock carts participated and after the heats, the following six emerged winners to take part in the final. The winners were: Charan Singh of Gill, Ajit Singh of Ghudani Kalan, Balwant Singh of Sonkhian, Ajit of Ghudani Kalan, Ajit Singh of Ghudani Kalan and Harvinder Singh of Jalaldiwal.

Mr Gurkirat Singh Kotli, a Youth Congress leader, inaugurated the festival. Mr Kulwant Singh Boparai of the organising club read out the welcome address.

World kabaddi cup:
The first Nirmal Singh Nimma Memorial World Kabaddi Cup will be held on January 19 at Principal Naresh Chandar Memorial Stadium on the Malerkotla road Khanna. The cup is being organised by the Nimma Memorial International Kabaddi Organisation. A meeting was held to chalk out the programme of the cup at the Market Committee Office today.

Eight teams from England, America, Canada, Germany besides India would participate. He said the world cup was being organised in the memory of international kabaddi player late Nirmal Singh Nimma who was shot dead by militants in 1988.
