Mushaira’s stress on teetotalism
Our Correspondent

Ludhiana, December 31
A mushaira was organised by Bazm’e Adab last night at Mini-Rose Garden here. A candle was lit to inaugurate the mushaira by counseller Gurdip Singh Neetu. The secretary of the Bazm’e, Gurdeep Singh, first invoked God’s blessings and then read out a couplet to dissuade people from drinking.

The message of the mushaira was to become teetotallers. Gurdeep Singh said: Sharab ek aisi cheez hai , jiska naam bhi bura hai, anjam bhi bura hai, In the similar vein Yashpal Kapoor said “Aisi chandri sharabhai bhayia, lakah vasde ghar barbad ne keete”.

Vinod Kumar asked a very thought-provoking question : Sharab lanat hai yeh sab kehte hai, phir bhi log nashen mein kyo rehte hein?Almost all participants urged the people to give up drinking.

Mr Gurdeep Singh said the message for the new year is to quit drinking. Instead of spending on a bottle to celebrate the new year, which will make only one man happy, if fruits or other things are boughts the entire family would be happy to enjoy the last night of the year 2002.
