Three-day pulse polio drive in Sonepat
Our Correspondent

Sonepat, February 7
The Health Department will launch a three-day pulse polio campaign beginning from February 9 in the district.

According to a report, this is another bid by the authorities of the Health Department to make Sonepat district free of polio. The authorities have geared up its machinery to achieve the aim.

The department has set up as many as 76 booths in the urban and rural areas of the district for administering the polio drops to all the children below five years. Besides, 15 mobile teams will be in operation and the officials of these teams will visit the slum areas for immunisation campaign.

Official sources revealed that as many as 42 teams would be set up to administer the polio drops to the children at the brick kilns and other interior areas of the district. Moreover, nine teams have been deputed to give polio drops to the children at the railway stations and the bus stands, etc.

The employees of the Health Department and volunteers of social and voluntary organisations have been asked to go from door to door to administer the polio drops to infants and children.

The authorities have appealed to various resident welfare associations and other organisations to help in the pulse polio campaign.

It is reported that some of the villages falling in the remote areas have not been covered extensively. Similarly, several families refuse to go to the polio booths, situated normally in schools or chaupals due to illiteracy and ignorance. Due to the nature of their work, many migrant workers in the district have been unable to take advantage of the scheme.
