“Thanks to the efforts put in by the Punjab farmers, the state, now, tops in honey production, but more is expected from farmers to attain greater heights,” said Dr Amrik Singh Sandhu, Additional Director Extension Education (Training), of Punjab Agricultural University, at the second state-level function of the Beekeepers’ Club on the university campus here yesterday.
Dr Sandhu said he was confident that the interaction between the club and the PAU experts would solve problems of beekeepers. He urged members of the club to bring into fold more farmers. The Directorate of Extension Education would offer training not only at Ludhiana but also at all KVKs of the university in the state.
A senior entomologist, Dr Gurjant Singh Gatoria, said farmers should consult the university publication on the rearing of Italian bees to achieve their goals. Dr Pradeep Kumar Chhuneja talked about the quality, processing and grading of the product. Dr Bhag Singh Sohi, Mr Gurmeet Singh and Mr Dilbagh Singh told beekeepers that their honey would be purchased so as to leave them in profit.

Jhajj, conveyed problems of beekeepers to the scientists. Dr J.S. Bhalla said the next meeting of the club would be held at Kairon Kisan Ghar on June 5.
