Nadia, Rajan annex TT titles

Nadia Saini and Rajan both from the DAV Public School, Sector 8, Chandigarh claimed titles in the sub-junior girls and boys section in the Bhawan Hawk’s IXth Ranking Table Tennis Tournament played here today. In the girls final, Nadia defeated Sunandha, also of DAV Public School, 11-8, 8-11, 11-9, 11-4 while in the boys final, Rajan downed Sumit Kumar of Manav Mangal School, Sector 21, Chandigarh, at 11-5,11-9,12-14,11-5. Earlier in the semi-finals of the girls section, Sunandha shocked Sadhika Kaushal while Nadia outplayed Mahima. In the boys singles semi-finals, Sumit Kumar beat Abhiroop while Rajan defeated Sameer Singla. Abhinav qualifiesAbhinav Bindra, has been qualified for the ISSF world cup final to be held at Milan (Italy) from October 7 to 12. Abhinav now at number seven in the world will vie with other top shooters of the world in this prestigious meet. The top eight participants are: Yao ye (China), Peter Sidi (Hungary), Liu Zhiwei (China), Konstantin (Russia), Tevarit (Thailand), Torsten Krebs (Germany), Robert Kraskowski (Poland). Two other prominent shooters, Jason Parker of the USA and Li Jie of China will be the special invitees for this meet. Cricket tourneyCentury Steel XI outplayed 17 Boys Cricket Club by 55 runs, while JJ Sports beat Chandigarh Youth XI by 51 runs in the First Lieut-Col I.S. Deol Memorial Cricket Tournament played here today at the Cricket Stadium, Sector 16. Brief scores: Ist tie: Century Steel XI: 128 runs for nine in 25 overs (Harminder Bawa 27, Vaneet Chawla 35, Karan Sharma 23 and Rajesh Yadav 3 for 15); 17 Boys CC; 73 runs all out in 17.3 overs (Rajesh Yadav 30 and Dharamveer Yadav 4 for 21); IInd tie: JJ Sports XI: 110 runs all out in 19.1 overs (Umesh Kaira 46, Charanjit 21, Sanjeev Kumar 3 for 22, Harit Sharma 3 for 17 and Sameer Aggarwal 2 for 14); Chandigarh Youth XI: 59 runs all out in 15.1 overs (Ashu 17, Kulwinder 4 for 27, Manpreet 3 for 11 and Devi Singh 2 for 0). Roller hockey campDespite the change in dates for the Asian roller hockey to be held in Japan from September, 2003 to May, 2004, the national roller hockey camp in progress at the KB DAV Centenary school, Sector 7, will be held as scheduled. This was stated by Ms Madhu Bahl, Coordinator, national camp. She said the change of dates of the Asian skating meet were intimated as per communication received from the Roller Skating Federation of India. Ms Bahl said, however, the national camps for speed and artistic events in progress at Visakhapatnam and Ahmedabad, respectively, have been rescheduled. The 10th Asian Roller skating meet will now be held in May, 2004.
