All set for pulse polio campaign

The Health Department here claims to have completed all preparations for the first round of the pulse-polio campaign. Dr S.N. Tiwari, Civil Surgeon, in a press statement today said that 1964 booths would be set up in the district to administer polio drops to children up to five years of age on January 4. One hundred mobile teams had been set up by the health workers to provide polio drops to the children in the slum areas.

Dr K.K. Sahni, District Vaccination officer, said the department was taking help from various NGOs, para-medical staff, to make the campaign a success.. The officials have requested people to bring children up to 5 years to the nearby booths, so that no child is left without being given polio drops.

Lecture on AIDS awareness

Lectures on topics relating to stress management, aims and objectives of the NSS , personality development, national integration and awareness about lifestyle have been the highlight of the 10-day special NSS camp which began at Partap Singh Wala village on December 28.

Dr Suresh Goel, chest specialist, MD Oswal Cancer Hospital, Ludhiana, delivered a lecture on AIDS awareness, general health and hygiene here yesterday. Fifty volunteers and villagers pledged to abstain from drugs.

The camp is being organised under the supervision of Dr Rajinder Jain, NSS programme officer, Government College for Boys, Ludhiana.

Snooker championship

The Punjab State Snooker Championship will begin here at the Sutlej Club from January 4, according to Mr Sunil Jain, president, Punjab Billiards and Snooker Association (PBSA).

Entries should reach Mr Achint Varma, secretary, PBSA at the club by January 3.. The winners and the runners-up in the tournament will qualify for the forthcoming national championship scheduled to be held at Gwalior from January 25.
