NSS camp concludes

Ludhiana, January 6
A 10-day NSS special camp concluded on the campus of Partap Public School at Partap Singhwala village today. The camp on ‘Youth for swastha’ was organised under the supervision of Dr Rajinder Jain, Programme Officer, NSS, Government College for Boys, which was attended by 50 volunteers.

Lectures were delivered on different topics like the aims and objectives of the NSS, AIDS awareness and health hygiene, stress management, traffic rules and regulations, yoga and health, the role of forests in our life, pollution and environment, TB and its causes and precautions, dental care and health etc.

The projects undertaken during the camp were cleanliness and beautification, road repairs, teaching etc.

Mr Kuldeep Singh, SDM, was the chief guest at the closing ceremony and also gave away prizes to the best volunteers. He said NSS programmes inculcated the true feelings and spirit in them before they went in for community-oriented programmes. He also spoke about the need to obey traffic rules.

Mrs Indira Bhatia, Principal SCD Government College, presided over the function and gave away certificates and shields to the volunteers. She said girls should also participate in such camps so that they could serve the community by personality development, family planning, dowry eradication etc, she added.

Prof Rajinder Jain spoke about the activities and projects undertaken during the camp. He also presented mementoes to the SDM, Ms Bhatia, Dr Ramesh Inder Bal, and village Sarpanch Nachhattar Singh.

A colourful cultural show was presented by the volunteers which was presided by Senior Group Leader Vijay Mourya and Deputy Group Leader Ajay Kumar Goel. The volunteers presented songs, poems, jokes, ghazals etc on the occasion in which the poems presented by Ajay Goel and Rohit Aggarwal were appreciated by the audience.

Prof Harpreet, Prof Balwinder Pal, Mr Inder Singh, Mr Bachhittar Singh, Mr Mourya, Mr Ajay Goel, Mr Anil Pandey, Mr Jatinder Passi, Mr Parneet Singh, Mr Kuljeet Singh, Mr Rohit Aggarwal, Mr Rajeev Mourya also spoke on this occasion.

Construction of memorial hall begins

Doraha, January 6
The construction of a multipurpose hall in memory of the founder-president of Guru Nanak National College, Doraha, the late Dr Ishwar Singh, started today.
The great personality of the area, Mr Om Parkash Bector, laid the initial mark at the place where the multi-purpose hall is to be constructed. Bibi Bhagwant Kaur, president of the management Committee of the college, Mr Jogeshwar Singh Mangat, senior vice-resident, Mr Jagjiwan Pal Singh Gill, vice-president, Prof Balwant Panjali, general secretary along with other committee members and renowned personalities of the area followed suit.

According to the Principal of the college, Mr Jaswant Singh Gill, “the multi-purpose hall shall be the first of its kind in the entire area. The hall shall constitute a stage for the performance of various functions and a vast indoor stadium where apart from performances on various sports functions, the sportsman will be able to continue their regular routine exercises smoothly.”

“It was the long cherished dream of Dr Ishwar Singh which we are trying to fulfill with all our might and the healthy cooperation from the students staff and the prominent personalities of the area,” said Mr Jogeshwar Singh Mangat, senior vice-president of the committee.

Prof Balwant Singh Panjoli, general secretary of the college management committee, said that a total cost of about Rs 50 lakh is to be incurred on the entire project for which the major contribution is being done by the wife of Dr Ishwar SIngh, Ms Bhagwant Kaur and the members of his family. Recalling the efforts of Dr IshwarSingh, Mr Om Parkash Bector said that Dr Ishwar Singh was a man of convictions. “His thoughts and actions were one and his indispensible contributions towards the field of education shall be remembered for ages. Hence the family of Dr Ishwar Singh is doing a tremendous contribution towards this field by providing monetary support for this grand task,” Mr Bector said.

Executive members including Mr Tarlok Singh Jaggi, Rs Ropp Brar, Major Bhupinder singh Dhillon, Mrs Rupinder Brar, Mr Bhupinder Singh, Mrs Sartaj Kaur Dhillon, Mr Adarsh Pal Bector, Mr Bhupinder Singh , Mrs Sartaj Kaur Dhillon, Mr Adarsh Pal Bector were among those who were present on the occasion.
