31 cricketers shortlisted after trials

Fortyfive boys (u-13 year) turned out for the trials, conducted by the Ludhiana District Cricket Association (LDCA) at the Arya College for Boys grounds here today. A four member panel of selectors — Mr Chaman Lal Malhotra, Mr Lokesh Khanna, Mr Naresh Marwaha and Mr Pawan Pandey — shortlisted 31 players, who would be enrolled with the regional coaching centre being run by the LDCA under the aegis of the Punjab Cricket Association. According to Mr Vinod Chitkara, general secretary, LDCA, the selected boys have been asked to report to coach Manmohan Bedi at the Arya College grounds on May 4. The players would represent the LDCA Coaching Centre XI in the Chaman Lal Malhotra Cricket Tournament to be organised by the LDCA next month. The names of the players are: Abhinav Bhatia, Vishnu, Karan Bhatti, Sukhmit Singh, Anish Kumar, Ranmeet Singh, Kanav, Sukhman Chahal, Kamaljot Singh, Shivam Sharma, Anish Jindal, Nishant Ravi, Simran Sharma, Akshit Goel, Shubham, Bhuvan Goel, Shivam Bhargava, Gundip Singh, Sohail, Sidharth, Sunny, Rameez Godi, Neetu, Dron Kanish, Aakarshan Sood, Ashish Sharma, Paras, Dipin, Sachin, Ankit and Mohkamjit Singh.
Cricket tourneyThe Sports Cricket Club and the Rana Club won their respective quarter-final matches to join the Bedi Club and Riat XI in the semi-finals of the 11th Veera Devi and first Madan Lal Memorial Cricket Tournament, being organised by the FTI Club at the Bhambian Kalan grounds here today. In the quarter-finals, the Sports Cricket Club recorded a 10-wicket victory over the Brothers Club, while the Rana Club routed Grewal XI by 62 runs to secure their berth in the semi-final. In the third quarter-final, Brothers XI, batting first, were all out for 79 runs in 18.2 overs. Only Tony (34) could reach the double-figure mark. For the Sports Cricket Club, the main wicket takers were Mithun and Tarun, who scalped four and two victims, respectively. The Sports Cricket Club achieved the target in the 12th over without losing any wicket. Minta and Nishu remained unbeaten on 37 and 26 runs, respectively. Brief scores: Brothers

Club- 83 for no loss (Nishu 26 and Minta 37). In the fourth quarter-final, the Rana Club won the toss and opted to bat. In its quota of 20 overs, the club scored a total of 197 for 6. Anil Singla top scored with 90 runs, which included ten boundaries and one six. In reply, Grewal XI’s innings folded at 135 in the penultimate over of the match. Brief scores:
