summers having arrived, hair care tips have started pouring in. Sylvia Chen, technical manager, Wella India, offers her recipe for hair care. “Short or long, curly or straight hair, its no secret that hair care needs drastic change when summer months arrive, as hair will react differently to climatic changes,” says Chen.
“Consider washing hair less often (thrice a week) to allow hair to absorb more moisture.
As and when possible, finish with a cold rinse to seal hair cuticles and impart natural shine,” she adds.
To prevent static electricity in your hair when you shampoo, apply a conditioner that adds moisture and shine. Exposure to sunlight can dry hair particularly if your hair is chemically treated. Use after care products, specially designed for chemically treated hair.
“Long or curly tends to be frizzy due to lack of moisture and summer heat aggravates the frizziness, making the hair unmanageable.
For frizzy hair maintenance, use a leave-in conditioner. Take a break from heat styling and let your hair dry naturally whenever possible.
Use shampoo and conditioner that contains pro-vitamin B5, a natural strengthener,” says Chen.
For those who prefer chilling out in swimming pools, Chen advises, “Chlorine and salt water have an adverse effect on condition of hair and hair colour.
Wet hair thoroughly and apply leave in conditioner. Your hair is less likely to soak up chemicals that will cause damage”.
Talking about the trends in hairstyles, Chen adds, “as far as cut goes, what looks best on you is the look to go with.
Wella recommends colours such as cool blondes and soft strawberry pinks inspired by their latest collection-Romantic Inspiration”.
“In case of long hair, a regular trim every six to eight weeks is needed, since summer heat can pump up the frizz. When your ends are frizzy, it’s a sure sign that they are either damaged, split or both.
High hair pure crystal lotion is recommended for frizzy hair to impart shine and natural hold,” she explains.
