Natwar meets Powell, Kasuri at Jakarta

New Delhi, July 2
External Affairs Minister K. Natwar Singh today had one-on-one meetings with US Secretary of State Colin Powell and Pakistan Foreign Minister Khurshid Mahmud Kasuri on the margins of the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) meeting at Jakarta.

Mr Natwar Singh’s wide-ranging discussions with Mr Powell covered the recent NATO meeting in Istanbul, the latest position in Iraq and the recent developments in the Indian subcontinent and Afghanistan.

According to an External Affairs Ministry spokesman, Mr Natwar Singh also used the opportunity to brief the Secretary of State on the foreign policy of the new government.

At his meeting with Mr Kasuri, Mr Natwar Singh is understood to have discussed the progress in the peace talks between the two countries in the wake of the recent Foreign Secretary-level dialogue in New Delhi. This was the second meeting between the two ministers. They had met recently at Qingdao in China on the sidelines of the Asian Cooperation Dialogue (ACD) conference. — UNI
