Ludhiana, July 4
Three persons, including two barbers and a vegetable vendor, were allegedly shot dead and two others were found missing when a group of gunmen opened fire at them in Shakti Nagar near Basti Jodhewal at 10.30 pm here.

The number of the dead could increase as the police had sealed off the area and no information was coming in.

It seemed that a bloody clash took place between the victims and the assailants but the reason behind the incident was not known so far. The deceased have been identified as Jassi and Banta (barbers) and Surinder, a vegetable vendor.

The injured, who were identified as Ashok Kumar and Jagtar Singh, claimed they were caught in the cross-fire. They have been admitted to the CMC. No resident of the area was allowed to talk to mediapersons.

It is suspected that the two injured persons were accomplice of the assailants.

The family members of the barber, Banta, reached the spot but left immediately. They could have been arrested, police sources said.

All senior officers have rushed to the spot but mediapersons were kept away from the bodies.
